Does anyone have a successful peer-to-peer marketplace?

I'm building a marketplace similar to Etsy but for different products and I'd like some advice

Hi Amy Breen,

Thank you for your question.

Since you didn't mention your product details, I would give you some examples.

If you are a handicraft designer for home decor, I would suggest you to reach out to Architects & Interior Designers. They are your potential buyers. It is always advisable to reach out to them personally if they are within your reach. But if they are located in a different country, I would suggest you to go through their profile and the projects that they have worked. If it suits your design, you can go ahead and connect with them through LinkedIn and other professional networking sites.

Hi Andrew, Thanks for your answer.

My products are food, artisanal to be precise. They must be crafted or grown in my home country, New Zealand. My idea is to extend the market reach for Farmers Market producers for example. It's really expensive for a small batch producer to advertise/market so this way they will get that marketing and exposure to many more buyers.

I guess my questions were more around avoiding the chicken-egg scenario markeplaces seem to face (buyers signing up before enough sellers have). I have a plan around this, I'm going to launch just to physical markets first, this means delivering flyers at the markets, putting a video ad on Facebook (but without a fb ad, I already have 400 or so followers) and just encouraging sellers to get on board as a starting point. Then 3-4 weeks later I'll do a proper launch to the whole ofthe country.
