Tamara,

You for Requests for Proposals (RFPs). Grant writing, management and oversight of grants are usually posted. For Alabama - it is here: http://www.treasury.state.al.us/Content/vendors.htm. Note: I am not completely familiar with AL - so, do a Google search. A lot of States do a competitive bid for grants and grant writing. AL - I am not so sure about.

Grant writing is a good skill and great to volunteer for. However, management of the grant is also important. You may want to contact local non-profits and volunteer also. Even police depts. may be interested in grant writing. Pick your area/approach and volunteer. You'd be surprised how many organizations will take you up on the offer - especially if it is free!

Charities are always looking for grant writers (having worked for one).  I would suggest doing some volunteer work for a charity you believe in.  It may turn into a consulting or employment opportunity.  Yes...I've seen this work!
