Q. What are good strategies for choosing a business name?
I'm getting ready to start a green/sustainable development business and trying to decide on a name. Looking for general strategies. Trying to decide whether to err on the descriptive side or use something more unique for a name.
Thanks,
Jeffrey

Hello, possibly I would list all those come to my mind and then see which one strategically fits best to the business. Further you would also think of how could you build this name as a brand ambassador of the services/products you offer.
Hope this helps.. feel free to contact at uditivyas@gmail.com with more questions/concerns.

I would choose a name that is not too descriptive to your initial business model. Product lines or services do change over time. There is a local business whose name no longer fits the business model, so it's name was eventually changed to just it's initials. But now nobody know what those initials stands for.
There are some guidelines for comming up with a good name, just do a search online. Hope that helps.

Halo Jeffrey
My recommendation is to search, search, and setup a google alert for some of the names you have in mind and run the search to make sure the name is not yet taken; and also you want to search the local database and maybe www.dnb.com too just to make sure your company name will be unique and later you can trademark that.
Best wishes
