What is a Mentor?

  • A trusted counselor or guide
  • A more experienced individual who helps and guides development in another

Who can be a Mentor?

  • Someone who is sincerely interested in someone else’s growth
  • A person who is does not volunteer for personal gain
  • Someone who wants to help another person succeed in this world

Why does Mentoring matter?

  • People need help, and they are very interested in you
  • A mentor is one of the most valuable assets a person can have

What does a Mentor do?

  • Mentors share wisdom on an ongoing basis
  • Mentors listen and act as a sounding board for ideas

Things to keep in mind during a mentoring relationship:

  • Remember, protégés that you work with may not have an MBA, but they are invested in their business and are working hard to be successful. Work withthem.
  • Emphasize business basics. Do not take for granted that they know typical business practices.
  • People have their own unique perspective. Recognizing this can lead to more successful and effective communication.
