Irvin “Prince” Lynch is a co-founder and owner of Conquest Empire, an up and coming lifestyle brand living by the motto: “failure is not an option.” According to Prince, wearing the Conquest brand isn’t about “how much money you make, the brand is about being proud of what you do.”
Though his business has gained traction through word of mouth in his community in New York, Prince realized that there was an opportunity to market his brand to reach a larger audience. Furthermore, the COVID-19 pandemic forced him to cancel some of his planned pop-up shop events and related content, so he had to turn to other strategies to get the word out.
Prince needed to decide the best path to free up capital and fund his marketing efforts. That’s why he joined The Coalition to Back Black Businesses’ mentoring community on MicroMentor and started connecting with experienced business professionals.
Through MicroMentor, Prince connected with Edmund Chien, a retired stockbroker and current business coach located in Toronto, Canada. In recurring hour-long video calls, Prince and Edmund not only explore pathways for increasing capital at Conquest, but they also dive into a variety of other topics based on the questions that come up during Prince’s entrepreneurial journey, and the experiences that they share. Topics have ranged from sales to the ins-and-outs of the fashion industry.
Throughout their calls, Edmund and Prince bounce ideas off of one another, and Edmund helps guide Prince through the challenges that he is facing. According to Prince, “the conversations are about him opening up my mind to things that I don’t think about.” Together, Prince and Edmund are conquering New York fashion’s market, one business question at a time.
