Our main challenge is raising the funding required to run the programs we have in place. We have met well-trained people who are capable of doing the work in Haiti, but we need funding, improve organizational capacity, and guidance to plan and grow the organization to reach more people.
Actions I’ve taken so far
Become a partner with the crowdfunding site GlobalGiving to help raise money for our education program
Recruited volunteers to help improve social media pages.
Recruited some experts in Haiti to help with projects
My future goals
To elevate the organization to a place where it can have significant widespread impact.
1) Build a STEM school
2) Implement a school feeding program
3) Small-scale farming program
My motivations to work with a mentor
The motivation for working with a mentor is to get the organization in a place where it can help more people by crafting and implementing a strategy with the help of a mentor.
About my venture
Home Roots Foundation
I co-founded a nonprofit 501(c)3 organization that is now active in Haiti for the last three years. We main focus is education and we support two existing schools by helping with supplies, scholarships and teacher salaries. However, by popular demand, we started a women's microfinance program in 2020 and we are working with other organizations to help famers in some rural areas also. Our budget is only $25,000 and we currently have only volunteers. We believe in helping people help themselves not through charity but through sustainable programs and entrepreneurialism. There are a lot of people counting on me for help. My background is in the biomedical sciences, so I seek guidance from those with expertise to better help our organization increase the positive impact we have had to date .
