What I need help with

My background as an entrepreneur

My current challenges

-I have a full time job so now I’m here I’m working out how to kick start this thoroughly and whether to carry on my other job. I’ve started meeting suppliers but I’ve realised there’s so much to learn to be truly sustainable, working with ethical traders which are also reliable and finding these. -I have always had a passion for interiors and a good eye for finding items however I’ve never worked in the industry so a challenge is knowing the demand. -I’ve got my first client but find it hard to know how to price the product. It’s potentially a long term partnership. -knowing where to start! I find myself procrastinating and doing lots of research when I just want to start. -Finding my exact unique selling point. -Finding a business partner -knowing how to balance my job and starting this -how to make the e-commerce platform unique, engaging, slick and very user friendly -establishing exact target market -how to price my products -how to sell my products -accountancy

Actions I’ve taken so far

-Interviewed potential clients in the industry to get a feel for what they need but most have said I need to present to them what I can offer then they’d be open to seeing what I can offer -researched and met suppliers in India to understand what I can offer -researched trends in the industry online -set up a domain name -working with one interior designer client to source items

My future goals

-have an impressive e-commerce platform efficiently selling beautiful products that follow my values -find a business partner that has skills / knowledge / contacts in interior design -secured a wide range of great suppliers, building great relationships - transitioned from being employed to self - employed effectively - make enough money to give profits to charity -have a large high end client base

My motivations to work with a mentor

Be guided on my business decisions, a support to know the best way to go about tasks, teach me and give me confidence.

About my venture

The Pelican House Started 2021

The Pelican House will be a high-end homeware e-commerce platform selling unique and sustainable interiors items. There is a vast need for more sustainable interiors products globally so there will be two types of products sold: 1.) antique, second hand and vintage items focusing on reusing and repurposing products, promoting the circular economy. 2.) sustainably and ethically produced products, also aiming to support the circular economy. There will be a huge focus on transparency of where the product is from and how it is made, connecting consumers to the roots of the product with the goal to people becoming more aware of where their items are from. The aim is to prompt conscious buying and a deeper connection to the product. Each product supplied will have a video telling the story, tying the customer closer to its origins.

The platform will be a slick, easy to use, unique online shopping experience. It will also act as a lifestyle platform with a blog and interesting content around the suppliers, the future of the industry, trends etc. I want to support and grow smaller suppliers, saving artisanal crafts in India and potentially other countries in the future.

Alongside this, I will offer a bespoke service for interior designers, hotels, restaurants, architects and individuals in the UK. Using suppliers I've formed strong relationships with, I will get items made and source items with the product goal to be unique, ethical, sustainable and one of a kind.

I have just arrived in India to live. I have met some suppliers to get a feel for what I can offer, the suppliers I use will develop over time. I now want to work out how to take this large scale online.

Countries of operation: India, United Kingdom
