What I need help with
My background as an entrepreneur
My current challenges
My main struggles are: The ability to balance work and home life. My work currently consumes 12+ hours of my day, 5 days a week, and half of my weekends. This would be moderately acceptable, except for the fact that what I have been earning doesn't justify these hours. I also struggle with closing sales. I have a couple that I probably should have closed, but they gave me the "let me think about it" routine, and so I put them on my schedule for later. I do have sales under my belt, but feel that my closing ratio should be higher. I struggle with justifying the time spent with "no's", as it is quite a bit of time that I spend, before even actually qualifying them. This is due to the companies methods of operation.
Actions I’ve taken so far
I consult with my manager after each "presentation" (probably our first mistake, calling it a "presentation") to recap the events. He gives advice, but I think he may lack some credibility in my mind. He makes a comfortable income, but he works more than I do to earn it. I have made a commitment to myself to give this an honest try for 6 months before regrouping and considering my options.
My future goals
My goals are to earn a comfortable monthly income ($10K/mo) to alleviate my wife of some of the financial stress that we have. I would also like to be in a place to where I don't have to put in 12 hr days six days a week to earn this income. I would like to find a "faster way to the no" to be able to find the "yes", and increase my income.
My motivations to work with a mentor
I feel that a mentor could guide me to get to where I want to be. They would hopefully have sales experience, and help me figure out where I am going wrong, and how to correct it. I want to have a home life again.
About my venture
AIL Started 2021
I am a beginning Licensed Life Insurance Agent. I was recently laid off from a safety inspector position for a utility contractor, and thought I would try this opportunity that has the potential for unlimited growth and opportunity. I have previous sales and management experience. I worked for and ran an online retailer/wholesaler for a decade. I wanted to still provide a sort of "public service" while being compensated for my time and efforts. I did well in my previous sales position, so I thought that would translate well to insurance. I am currently running into a work-life balance issue, as well as internal struggles with the way that business is conducted. It's not unethical or immoral. Just time consuming, and goes against alot of what I have been taught and know about sales.
