What I need help with
My background as an entrepreneur
My current challenges
Lack of finance to acquire necessary school infrastructure, pay debts and run an effective marketing campaign
Actions I’ve taken so far
I have tried getting loans from financial institutions and individuals. I have also unsuccessfully tried to get partners who understand business and are ready to invest for the long haul. With my little, I have done door to door marketing and a Facebook page.
My future goals
To be a one stop centre with kindergarten, primary, secondary and college under one roof. I also hope to start IGCSE to expand the market. To achieve this, I need to acquire my own land of up to 50 acres.
My motivations to work with a mentor
I don't know everything. Sometimes I encounter difficult situations and don't get the right person to guide me through. I would have avoided a lot of pitfalls if I had a mentor
About my venture
Kitengela Champions School Started 2016
A kindergarten and primary day school that is on its knees. It has had a very high staff turnover over the last 4 years and failed to cut a niche in the local market. The school is heavily in debt and unable to pay the current staff and different service providers. The major challenge is poor income turnover and very slim market penetration. The school relies on school transport to pick and drop kids but the school bus on loan was auctioned by the bank in January this year. There is urgent need to reposition, attract the best staff and get finance to clear debts, rebrand and equip to convince the market. Our strength is strategic location, weakness is lack of financial resources, opportunity is that we are in a populous and fast growing city and the threat is unfair competition and COVID 19
