What I need help with

My background as an entrepreneur

My current challenges

With a full-time job, I need an effective way to market our products that will lead to sales. We have a decent, small following on Instagram but it isn't currently being utilised for effective e-commerce, more for brand awareness and a few small orders via DMs.

Challenge: with every product being handmade, every picture represents only 2-3 products (inventory doesn't have 100-500 of the same items) so marketing is time consuming, albeit probable. We are a 2-men crew and want to know where we should focus our time and energy on building.

Actions I’ve taken so far

We have a few offline stockists and were doing decently well prior to COVID-19 lockdown. We have a work-in-progress website domain for e-commerce with a few items, descriptions and pictures, but we have yet to go live. We are profitable insofar as we don't pay ourselves (the 2 founders of the brand).

My future goals

Becoming a household brand for traditionally-made, modern sustainable fashion.

My motivations to work with a mentor

Searching for tech-based solutions for a problem so as to avoid increasing price for the sake of it.

About my venture

aNERDstore

Batik is a traditional, wax-resist textile dyeing technique inscribed as part of UNESCO’s Intangible Cultural Heritage (2009). To date, traditional textile arts such as Batik and Tenun (weaving technique) still form the bread and butter of artisans in rural areas of Indonesia. It is aNERDstore's mission to help the artisans and makers in Indonesia to empower themselves financially while guiding them to lead a more sustainable practice.

Against the backdrop of fast fashion where classical batik patterns such as parang and kawung often get replicated in mass productions of cheaply-printed fabric, aNERDstore aims to preserve this intangible heritage by promoting the reinvention and evolution of the use and language of Batik in modern everyday lives to preserve its relevance.

We ensure our apparels and lifestyle products are made using fabrics that are original creations of the traditional methods: handstamped (batik cap) or hand-drawn (batik tulis). Each apparel and product we offer has a direct link to the human hands that made them, not machines (except sewing machines😊).

Our customers will reap the benefits in having beautiful, long-lasting quality pieces.

Because real Batik does not fade; it ages gracefully.

Countries of operation: Indonesia, Singapore
