Lia,
$125 is a little steep for a logo. You can get a quality logo developed from $50-$60.

It depends on who is doing your logo and how professional you want the logo to be. Looking at professional logo from a reputable design studio you are going to get what you pay for. To have an amature do your logo in Adobe Illustrator or Photoshop you are going to get something subpar. A professional is going to put the right colors, shapes and fonts together to destinguish your brand and make it draw in and advertise your business properly. If you want low cost to most professional results, I recommend looking into crowd sourcing for you logo. Look through the examples here to see what I mean: http://www.crowdspring.com/

You can get a good logo for $125, but anytime you are hiring our creative, cost should come second to the designer themselves. It's going to be better for you in the long run to find a designer with a great portfolio, good referrals and is easy for you to communicate with than it is to simply shop price.
A few things to keep in mind when developing your identity:1) Make sure its unique for your industry and your market.2) As Nate said, make sure its a VECTOR logo (delivered file should be in .EPS or .AI)3) Logo's don't need to be LITERAL, they need to be RECOGNIZABLE and they need to reflect your personality. The Nike logo has nothing to do with shoes, McDonald's logo has nothing to do with hamburgers, etc.

I agree with Dan. A logo is just one piece of your marketing plan. You can have the coolest graphic design, but if it doesn't evoke the right message, if it doesn't integrate, if you don't use it properly, then what good is it? Depending on your type of business and your intentions, it would likely be worthwhile to consult with a marketing specialist to develop a plan, and the logo would be one piece of that.

it depends on the logo quality, time and effort you have put into that logo. the creation process. is it unique ? was it built using a sacred geometry ? all these questions matter. and of course three important aspects are * your average market price for logo * your level with respect to other logo designers in your market * the type of business you are running ( agency , freelancer , designer office )
