How do I go about starting a digital marketing consultancy?

Do it for free.

Once you have 2 or 3 reputable businesses that you've done great work for, you can post that success on your business site. It's hard to start consulting without a proven track record.

Another idea is to offer a steep discount to new entrepreneurs, in order to create and sustain a long term relationship with them.

For you to be a consultant you will need to be knowledgeable in your field or surround yourself with a team of professionals. Second you will have to go through the process of thinking through your plan (business plan) carefully with your team or Business Development professional who will further guide you and at that point you can begin launching out on the internet your consulting Marketing Agency not forgetting the important need of registering your business with your state Corporate Affairs Commission so you have a legal footing in your country. There can be a variety of approaches - for some people some methods work, some don't. Assuming that you have enough expertise in the field, the next most important thing is to build a network.

Start taking digital projects as a freelancer, tell your friends and previous colleagues to spread word-of-mouth about your expertise service at a lower rate. Recommendations help build trust and reliability. Once you get 2 to 3 clients, other than your own expertise see what other services your clients are looking for. Immediately expand your knowledge on those sectors and keep the client under your services (if necessary hire someone else for extreme expertise - use freelancer sites). Clients love if they get a package of comprehensive digital services at one place itself and do not need to keep on searching one freelancer for each service. So give more importance on that. This might sound not that much cost friendly, but in the end you are getting 3 to 4 strong key accounts as clients who are going to recommend your services to other businesses. Once you have penetrated the market like that, you gain more clients - don't forget to constantly keep-in-touch and have a good relationship. Now you gradually register your services as a business and appoint 2 or 3 other people according to your needs for services. Now you have a company name, immediately start building your company's social media brand presence and put up ads on social media with a landing page which has all the information as well as an option for consultation (CTA).
