You are describing a consultant. "Life Coach" is simply a different term for consulting.

Success in consulting is largely based on professional expertise and credibility built up over time. If such a record is available it must then be marketed nurtured and grown. Here are some tips.

  1. Do not promise what you cannot deliver

  2. Do not overextend your resources and get a reputation for poor performance.

  3. Do not tell the customer what he or she wants to hear. Tell them what they need to know. They will respect you for it.

  4. Network constantly on professional sites such as Quora. Hit the "Answers" feature and accumulate an "Expert" rating from your peers in your field.

  5. Blog like there is no tomorrow. A blog is quite different than a web site. Provide good, solid information free of charge and use blog searches for synergistic businesses to team with. Teaming is an absolute necessity these days.

  6. Be prepared to provide information, samples and valuable service gratis as a marketing tool. Introduce yourself and then immediately engage the client with your presentation tools available to bring your expertise to whatever topic they are interested in. Let them take you where they want to go with their concerns and their needs. Apply your presentation tools and expertise dynamically on the fly in a sincere manner to those concerns and needs and you will be in demand for follow up business.

  7. Quote and bill what the client can afford and grow with him (in content and resources).

  8. Be dedicated to working yourself out of a job with a specific customer and having your client take over by training him. He will remember you and recommend you to 10 others.

  9. Remember growth is a function of persistence and foresight. Know where your market is headed and get their first - then write and speak about your success indirectly by helping others. Demonstrate humility and a satisfaction in helping others succeed. They will find ways to give you credit. There are ways of tooting your horn without making peoples' lights go out.

  10. Word of mouth advertising from pleased clients is a sure ticket to success.

Hi This caught my eye - "But the problem is I have no official education in this field".

Please get professionally qualified. One of the better known organisations to provide Coaching certification is ICF. They have 3 levels - ACC, MCC and PCC. The other great course to complete is NLP.

The other area that you need to work is to be confident. The answer to this question must be an emphatic Yes - "Can you add value to the client?"

The answers by Kenneth are very relevant once you are ready to start your business post gaining the expertise level in the chosen areas.

Hope it helps.

Let me know if there are any specific issues.

Hi, I can help you if you want.

I have a bachelor degree in management to and I’m preparing myself to be a educational coach. So if you want we can work together.

My advice is:

  1. Have a coaching certification... a basic one wouldn’t be enough to offer a good service… for example I have taken three basic courses.
  2. Read books about powerful questions and how to coach…. You have to prepare yourself to be a good coach… it will take time (I have some book that I can share with you).
  3. Have a mentor, a professional like coach that can share his experience whit you… it you want to progress fast… a mentor is needed
  4. Make a program... you need to have something to bring to your coachee… not a simple one… a good program… focus on the details.
  5. Define a process... with steps, sessions and tools… you net to register the information and made a contract… use the ICF code of ethics.
  6. Practice at least with 20 people for free... just to be sure you have something with value to offer… the you can offer your service at a low price (remember you are at the beginning... you don’t what to be a swindler)
  7. Improve yourself every day, every week, every month and year after you are sure you are a complete professional… then you can hit your price at a respectable level.

I’m Peruvian but I can speak English… If you want I can share some material with as a mentor. Then you can find other mentor and receive more material, knowledge and advice.
