You develop a marketing plan. The plan involves establishing specifying your product or service niche and then conducting market research by profiling prospective customers, their values and needs. The essence of market research is accumulation of data on these values and needs and then focusing your offering on meeting them.

Start by accessing what's new/unique/cutting edge about your day care. What's the concept that will drive parents to your daycare vs. the one down the street? Next check with local officials to see what's required to open a licensed day care. Next what's your niche - before and after school care for older kids, etc. Next determine your facility requirements (in home vs. commercial space, etc.). If in-home, is that allowed in your neighborhood. Next determine staffing requirements (do you have the certifications needed or are you planning on hiring them) Next seek out insurance requirements - what's the right amount of coverage Next what type of security will you provide for pick up & drop off, as well as people entering and leaving the facility? All of these are aspects that should be considered leading up to starting a day care.
