What is the best marketing strategy for a small road construction firm? I have tried social media marketing but it seems nit to be getting me the results I need. How can I get more clients interested in my services?

My firm is engaged in construction of small home acess roads and driveways. We tarmac roads going to people's homes.

Hello Sam. I understand you build roads for families and home owners, right? Well, think when and where your potential customers will look for a contractor and do your marketing there. I don’t think social media would be the best option. Paid SEM (investing in keywords in Google so you come up when someone searches for “road” for example) could work. Also refferals from previous customers, flyers in homes without roads (that may need them) and having a sign posted with your company and telephone in the houses where you are currently working/building a road will give you great exposure. Hope this helps and good luck wit your business!

I believe that this depends on the type of road you are constructing, are they type of pavements for backyards or in-house roads? in this case, you have to reach individuals directly through online ads in social media or on websites or pages interesting in landscape architecture or urban design. If your company is working on large scale roads such as neighborhood or city scale roads, it is so hard to reach individuals, or through social media. Individuals on social media will not ask for constructing a city-scale road. Your customers will be large construction companies or companies that are subordinate to government or city development. Therefore, you have to reach these companies through partnership offers, through entering bids or tenders, etc.

You should define your customers properly first. Suggest you prepare 7-10 customer personas to define your customers unbiasedly first.

If my guess is correct, you have a mixture of Govt and private projects. Social media marketing may help you to connect people but not securing your business - you may et through bids or tenders.

For Govt projects - if you can connect to officers/ decision-makers check with them how to go about to secure a project and establish a regular communication/ relationship so that you can be updated with new projects available.

Another common approach is to join an engineering/ architect association as a member or website subscription. You may also advertise in those association websites or publications. You should consider participating in exhibition events where you can present your business and connect/ partner with people in the common industry.

If you know of some large construction companies that consistently have a lot of projects, you should consider trying to work closely with them so that they can offer you can regular projects.

Partner with salespersons may be an option if s/he can bring in a lot of good projects and have long list of rich leads.
