HOW CAN I FIND A COMPANY TO BUILD 50 PROTOTYPES OF MY PATENT-PENDING PROTOTYPE?

I have a patent-pending on a WHEELED WEED TRIMMER SUPPORT ASSEMBLY. This device changes the ergonomic game for weed trimming by eliminating back, arm, and shoulder pain associated with heavy weed trimmers. I need to locate an organization that can produce the prototypes and help identify component vendors for the subsequent assembly operation.

Hi Sheila,

You would choose someone depending on what materials and processes are needed. Before you even send anything to anyone make sure you get a signed NDA (non-disclosure agreement). You want to make sure you protect your pending patent as well as any forms of your product.

How did you build the first prototype? Can you just build it yourself or hire more people to build the next 50?

I would consider looking up local machine shops. They generally can do that for you. Have you considered 3D printing? If you have the 3D models, you can either print them yourself or send them out for external printing; the commercial businesses often give you more options for the choice of material.

Hello Sheila, Jennifer and Allan make excellent points - especially the protection of your proprietary materials and/or design. You might need to search outside of your immediate vicinity for a shop to make the prototypes. Look also for contacts through arts studios, etc. for where they get mock-ups made. Consider contacting a local university that might have a design program (the arts or theater) or an engineering program. Also, they might be able to provide a low cost advising service for making the product cheaper and more marketable. But always remember to protect your design. Let me know what else I can assist with, as manufacturing was my career.
