My friend is in Sydney, Australia and trying hard to find a job in information technology for more than a year. He is still not able to find one. Any help will be appreciated.

How about he stop looking for jobs and let jobs look for him.

I believe that a year doesnt seem to be longer like 3 years, so i will advice that your friend should wait patiently and build up confidence in whatever that he does for the mean time...if the job that he is looking for doesnt materiliase that will be a clear indication that he should just do away with seeking for jobs and start a business

His training, education, skills and attitude should be displayed upfront in his resume, together with a statement of his professional objectives.

He should write a cover letter that reflects his having researched the company to which he is applying and specifics on how he can help them. Management and screening personnel, as well as interviewers are attracted by cover letters of that type.

Suggest he try an approach similar to the following but make it his own and be able to defend it when he is contacted.

"Dear Sir or Madam:

The opportunity to meet you is important to me. I can help your organization with respect to this requirement. Please allow me to provide a brief outline of my experience and attributes.

Background (details)

Strong Communicator - Enthusiastic and positive; believes human communication is the most vital element of an business system.

Quality Driven - Pragmatic business judgement - believes all elements of a business system must involve process ownership by motivated personnel and must be based on customer driven strategies .

Understands the role of business systems technology - Proactive thinker; believes computer hardware and software are tools to achieve efficiency in the organization but can be effectively utilized only with careful, user-oriented systems analysis.

I would consider it a privilege to undertake further discussions with you regarding how my qualifications may be of use to your firm.
